With hundreds of Web 3.0 games in development right now, here are 3 noteworthy games that players have every right to get excited about.
Illuvium — An Open-World Exploration Game
Known as the world’s first IBG (Interoperable Blockchain Game), Illuvium provides players with an AAA-rated blockchain gaming experience. Taking place on a ruined planet, players uncover the mysteries of the planet, travelling across the land subduing and capturing Illuvials, and try to unlock parts of the world.
Players can earn crypto in ILV tokens as in-game rewards through playing, completing PVE quests, performing special achievements, and winning prizes in tournaments and events. Players can also sell and trade captured Illuvials, farmed materials, and other collectibles/crafted NFT items on the IlluviDEX, Illuvium’s NFT marketplace, with zero gas fees for peer-to-peer trading with instant transactions with its integration with Immutable X.
What makes Illuvium one of the most anticipated games is the fact that it has a great team behind it that made household titles such as Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. They also provide amazing staking benefits and engage frequently with their community, allowing for feedback that could potentially shape the game itself into what players want to see and experience.
Star Atlas — A Space Exploration Grand Strategy Game
In this grand strategy game, players captain deep-space crewed spaceships to scan and discover celestial and terrestrial assets. Once discovered, claims that are staked can be mined, refined, and traded through a network of commercial mining installations, refineries, and the Universal Marketplace. Players can also install strategic trade routes using an offensive and defensive tactical plan of action.
Recently launching their Pre-Alpha Showroom, Star Atlas is built on Unreal Engine 5 graphics and community-driven content, it fully embraces the decentralized ethos of Web 3.0 and empowers the community to not only be a spectator and receiver of technologies but also to participate in the expansion of the project itself. Additionally, Star Atlas uses blockchain technology with the Solana protocol, establishing a largely serverless and secure gameplay experience.
Mist — MMORPG with Dynamic Combat Style
Built on the Binance Smart Chain, this Play-To-Earn RPG allows players to go on adventures, explore the vast open world of Mist with friends online and earn rewards. The NFTs in Mist are not like the typical “collectibles” common in the crypto space today. Instead, they are usable and functional NFTs that can be inserted into the Mist Game Framework and become special in-game items.
These versatile NFTs can be then bought or sold on both the in-game auction houses or on 3rd party NFT exchanges outside the game world. In-game land, farms, or livestock can also be purchased to aid players to receive more rewards.
Looking Forward Into the Near Future
As we see a shift in the types of games that players are getting excited about, current trends indicate a movement towards the open-world concepts of Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games, with much of the speculation supported by advances and innovation of metaverses by notable companies such as Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, and Google.
This trend also ties in well with gamers’ familiarity with avatars and community engagement of traditional MMOs, which seamlessly connects well with NFTs and in-game currencies in the form of tokens.
